Introduction:
- An insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is a three-terminal power semiconductor device primarily used as an electronic switch which, as it was developed, came to combine high efficiency and fast switching. It is a three-terminal semiconductor device, those pin are labeled collector(C), gate(G) and emitter(E). now, i will show how to check transistor using multimeter.
- The high voltage applications like PWM, SMPS, variable speed control, AC to DC converter powered by solar and frequency converter applications which operates with a hundred’s of KHz.
method #1: using multimeter
|
(A) |
- First turn ON digital multimeter and select continuity mode.
- Connect the test leads to the IGBT terminals. Keep test leads connected for a few seconds at like this (A) connection.
- if multimeter buzzer is ON, the IGBT is bad(damage) conditions.
|
(B) |
- Connect the test leads to the IGBT terminals. Keep test leads connected for a few seconds at like this (B) connection.
- if multimeter buzzer is OFF, the IGBT is good conditions.
method #2: using power supply
|
A |
- After the connection(A) is complete, when you press the switch(LED ON Switch) - if LED is ON, the IGBT is good. else, LED is OFF, the IGBT is bad.
- when you press the switch(LED OFF Switch) - if LED is OFF, the IGBT is good. else, the IGBT is bad.
|
B |
- After the connection(B) is complete, when you press the switch LED is ON, the IGBT is good. else, LED is OFF, the IGBT is bad.
- when you release the switch LED is OFF, the IGBT is good. else, the IGBT is bad.
I want to thank you for this informative post. I really appreciate sharing this great post. Keep up your work. Thanks for sharing this great article. Great information thanks a lot for the detailed article.

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate it
ReplyDeleteThank you very much
thanks, very plain for a novice like myself.

Great post, and great website. Thanks for the information! environmental test machine
ReplyDeleteThanks. Very helpful, but any update on onboard testing
ReplyDeleteRepairing an induction stove. IGBT (H25r1202) doesnt respond to meter test, so tried cct test and all good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for very informative blog on IGBT .
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing nice information about IGBT Power Module. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sharing
ReplyDeletethanks for your great information
ReplyDeletegreat info
ReplyDeleteAre you testing if gate to emitter is shorted? Could that possibly be done with another LED?
